Operation Max

max-id_-5327-front-sitting.jpgWhen I think about Max, I think about A Tale of Two Cities. You see, Max owes the fact that he is still breathing to another dog. Brumby was rescued from Heard County Animal Control awhile back with the help of Mary, the Kelpie Angel. Mary spotted the description for Max, which said Kelpie mix, but what Mary saw was a doppelganger for Brumby! At first I thought that she had accidentally sent me a photo of Brumby!

There has got to be someone breeding Kelpies in the area, as the two boys are about the same age. It wouldn’t be a stretch to believe that they were separated littermates somehow. Somehow, I think that the thought of two brothers fueled a bigger fire for the campaign to save Max.

I almost thought Max would slip through our fingers.

What was stacked against Max:

1) Discovering his need at the last minute, with less than 48 hours to go.
2) Two seperate time zones, 3 hours a part.
3) Praying for the chance that the right person would open their email one last time for the night.
4) Numbers without answering machines.

On top of it, the shelter he is at didn’t do any holds. The rescue or adopter would have to show bright and early when the door opened at 8:00, maybe 8:30. With someone several hundred and someone several thousand of miles away, the night ended with a cliffhanger!

Everything came together at the last minute, Max was snatched from death with hardly a moment to spare, and was taken to the vet, where he is being treated and will be neutered soon.

Now comes phase II. Max needs a home or a rescue!

If you have never been acquainted with a Kelpie, they are highly intelligent dogs that are herding dogs from “Down Under.” Most of them like Max “need a job” to thrive.  If you have owned a border collie that needs a job, you know what this is like. Examples of things that would keep Max happy is training as your agility partner.  Flyball would also be a fantastic idea, too. First, since he is a 1 1/2 year old “teenager” that is too smart for his britches and wasn’t taught a whole lot, he would need basic obedience training.

If Max is the “fast friend” you have been waiting for, comment and I will put you in touch!   I can also put you in touch if you would like to contribute to Max’s stay.
